Obtaining the BartPE Software Given that you no longer have a bootable system to run the DriveImage XML from, you need to boot off a CD based Operating System and run DriveImage XML from there to initiate the restore. There is a BootCD called BartPE created by Bart Lagerweij that will do just that. BartPE can be found and downloaded at the following location http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ . I encourage you to visit the site to read and go through everything to ensure you understand not only what you are doing from a technical point of view, but also you appreciate and understand the requirement of needing a licensed Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation files. This is entirely documented on the site, and is rather clear. For the purposes of this tutorial however I will be including step by step instructions on how to build and use BartPE to be able to run DriveImage XML to restore your operating system. In order to build a BartPE boot CD, visit http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and download the install file to a temporary location, such as c:\WorkingDir. |
